Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) emphasizes the connection between our thoughts, behaviours, emotions, and physical symptoms. It focuses on strategies to address current problems and symptoms. CBT is acknowledged as the gold-standard psychological treatment as it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of several mental health conditions and concerns, including: eating disorders; anxiety disorders; depression and bipolar disorders; obsessive-compulsive disorder; body dysmorphic disorder; posttraumatic stress disorder; and insomnia.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills are designed to address four challenging aspects of life: the ability to regulate difficult emotions; the ability to be assertive and interpersonally skillful; the ability to tolerate distress; and the ability to be mindful and present in our lives. Learning DBT skills has been shown to be effective in the treatment of borderline personality disorder as well as several other emotional and behavioural difficulties.
